Description

In this recipe for Broiled Grapefruit with Brown Sugar and Sea Salt, simple grapefruit gets the special treatment when broiled with brown sugar & topped with sea salt flakes.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe grapefruit
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • sea salt flakes - to taste

Instructions

  1. Turn oven onto broil setting or as hot as your oven will go on a bake setting.
  2. Slice the grapefruit in half, across its equator. Using a sharp paring knife, carefully cut around the outside edge of the grapefruit halves (slicing about halfway down) to loosen the segments slightly.
  3. Place the grapefruit halves, cut side up on a lined baking sheet. Sprinkle each half with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.
  4. Place the baking sheet on an upper shelf in the oven and broil the grapefruit for 4-6 minutes, rotating halfway through. The sugar should be completely melted and start to caramelize slightly. Keep an eye on the grapefruit halves as they will start to burn quickly, a little charring is nice but you don't want a blackened grapefruit.
  5. Once you're removed the grapefruit from the oven and it's cooled slightly, sprinkle with desired amount of sea salt flakes. Serve warm and preferably with a serrated grapefruit spoon.
